The Two-Step Belarus Route to a Schengen Application

Applicants in South Asia and West Africa often face long appointment queues and high intermediary fees when applying for a Schengen visa in their home country. The "two-step" route describes an alternative sequence: take up legal residence in Belarus first, then submit the Schengen application from there as a resident.

This page explains how the sequence works and what each step costs and requires. It does not predict an outcome. Visa decisions are made solely by the consulate handling the application.

What changes between the two routes

Appointment and intermediary costs

In several source markets, private intermediaries charge substantial sums for appointment slots. Official service fees for a Schengen appointment in Minsk or Brest are published and comparatively low.

Typical range
Intermediary fees in the source country€800 – €2,500
Official service fees in Minsk or Brest€150 – €300

Ranges are indicative and change; check current consular fee schedules before budgeting.

How the file is assessed

A consulate assesses ties, documented lawful stay and employment history. An applicant resident in Belarus submits with a local residence permit and a documented work record. That changes the evidence in the file. It does not change the consulate's discretion, and no approval rate can be promised.

Channel

Applications from Belarus go through official VFS Global or consulate channels, with standard biometric submission. There are no informal appointment brokers in this path.

The sequence, step by step

  1. Belarus work visa. An invitation and work visa are prepared, giving the right to enter, live and work in Belarus.
  2. Temporary residence permit (approximately 6 months). Living and working in Belarus while the temporary residence permit (TRP) is processed builds a documented record of lawful stay.
  3. Schengen or national visa application. With residence active, the appointment is booked in Minsk or Brest and the file is submitted through the standard biometric process, for either a national D-type work visa or a Schengen C-type visa.

What Permitra does on this route

  • Belarus phase: document preparation, invitation, and support through the TRP application.
  • Schengen phase: appointment booking, insurance, and assembly of the consular file.

Permitra is not a law firm or a licensed immigration adviser, does not represent applicants before consulates, and does not influence visa decisions. Each phase carries its own timeline set by the relevant authority.
