Poland: New Powers for the National Labour Inspectorate (PIP)
As of February 2026, the National Labour Inspectorate (PIP) in Poland has been granted unprecedented administrative powers. Inspectors can now issue decisions to reclassify civil law contracts (Umowa zlecenie/B2B) as full employment contracts (Umowa o pracę) without a court order.
Impact on Foreign Workers:
- Full Protection: Workers gain rights to paid leave, sick pay, and protection against sudden dismissal.
- Automatic Enforcement: If an inspector finds that your work has the characteristics of a full-time job (fixed hours, direct supervision), they can force the employer to upgrade your contract immediately.
- Tax Compliance: This shift ensures that all foreigners are correctly insured and contributing to the Polish social system, making future Karta Pobytu (TRC) applications much smoother.
This measure is part of Poland's broader alignment with EU standards for fair treatment of third-country nationals.
