Germany Opportunity Card (ChancenKarte) 2026: How It Works
Under Section 20a of the German Residence Act, the Opportunity Card (ChancenKarte) allows qualified professionals from non-EU countries to enter Germany for up to one year in order to look for qualified employment.

What is the Opportunity Card?
The ChancenKarte is a points-based residence permit designed to bridge the gap between global talent and German employers. Unlike traditional work visas, you do not need a firm job offer before arrival.

Eligibility & The 6-Point System
To qualify for the Opportunity Card, you must meet the Base Requirements and score a minimum of 6 points on the assessment grid (unless you are a fully recognized "skilled worker").
1. Base Requirements (Mandatory)
Before points are calculated, all applicants must demonstrate:
- Education: At least two years of vocational training or a university degree recognized in your country of origin.
- Language: German language skills at level A1 OR English language skills at level B2.
- Financial Means: Proof of "secure livelihood" (approx. €1,091 per month, often via a blocked account).

You must accumulate 6 points from the following criteria:
